Submarine Fleet – The Underwater Force

Pakistan Navy’s submarine arm is their strongest component matlab. They operate 8 submarines total – 3 Agosta-90B submarines (Khalid, Saad, Hamza) built by France and 5 Agosta-70 class subs.

The Agosta-90B subs are equipped with MESMA Air Independent Propulsion system, giving them extended underwater endurance. These submarines can stay submerged for weeks without surfacing.

  • 3 x Agosta-90B submarines with AIP technology
  • 5 x Agosta-70 class conventional submarines
  • 8 x Chinese Hangor-class submarines on order (delivery by 2028)

Surface Fleet – Frigates and Destroyers

The surface fleet consists of frigates, destroyers and corvettes. Their newest additions are 4 Type 054A/P frigates (PNS Tughril, PNS Taimur, PNS Tariq, PNS Babur) delivered by China between 2022-2024.

These Type 054A frigates are serious warships bhai – equipped with HQ-16 surface-to-air missiles, C-802A anti-ship missiles, and advanced radar systems. Each costs around $350 million (₹2,900 crores approximately).

  • 4 x Type 054A/P frigates from China
  • 1 x Type 21 frigate (PNS Babur)
  • 4 x F-22P Zulfiqar-class frigates
  • 4 x MILGEM corvettes from Turkey (2 delivered, 2 building)

Fast Attack Crafts and Patrol Boats

Pakistan Navy operates several classes of fast attack crafts and missile boats. The Azmat-class is their latest indigenous design built at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works.

These Azmat-class boats are armed with C-802A anti-ship missiles and can reach speeds of 30+ knots. Pretty decent for coastal defense operations.

  • 4 x Azmat-class fast attack crafts
  • 6 x Jalalat-class fast gunboats
  • 12 x Shanghai-class gunboats
  • Multiple patrol boats and coastal vessels

Pakistan Naval Aviation operates from PNS Mehran (Karachi) with anti-submarine warfare aircraft, maritime patrol planes, and helicopters. Their main aircraft include ATR-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Sea King helicopters.

The Special Service Group Navy (SSG-N) is their elite naval commando force, similar to our MARCOS. They’re trained for underwater demolition, coastal raids, and counter-terrorism operations.

Mujhe lagta hai Pakistan Navy has built a reasonably capable fleet, especially their submarine force. But honestly yaar, compared to Indian Navy’s 150+ vessels including aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and nuclear submarines, they’re still playing catch-up in 2026.
