AIIMS Delhi just launched their new ₹15 crore sports complex in March 2026, and honestly yaar, it’s about time our medical students got proper facilities! The All Institute of Medical Sciences network across Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bhubaneswar is finally taking sports seriously for future doctors.

Matlab, imagine studying 12+ hours daily and having zero time for physical fitness – that’s what most AIIMS students faced until now.

AIIMS Sports Infrastructure Gets Major Upgrade

AIIMS Delhi’s new sports complex includes a FIFA-standard football ground, 4 badminton courts, and indoor cricket nets. The facility cost ₹15 crores and covers 8 acres near the main campus in Ansari Nagar.

AIIMS Mumbai allocated ₹12 crores for their sports wing renovation in January 2026. They added swimming pools, basketball courts, and a 400-meter athletics track.

Arre bhai, AIIMS Hyderabad already had decent facilities but they’re expanding with ₹8 crores more investment for tennis courts and gym equipment.

Medical Students Excel in National Championships

Dr. Priya Sharma from AIIMS Delhi won gold in 400m at the National Medical College Athletics Championship in February 2026. She completed her MBBS while training 3 hours daily!

AIIMS cricket team defeated JIPMER Puducherry 8-6 in the All India Medical College Cricket Tournament final held in Bengaluru last month.

  • AIIMS Delhi: 15 medals in inter-medical sports events (2026)
  • AIIMS Mumbai: State champions in volleyball and basketball
  • AIIMS Bhubaneswar: National runners-up in football
  • AIIMS Hyderabad: Swimming and athletics dominance

Sports Medicine Research Gets Boost

AIIMS Delhi launched their Sports Medicine Department with Dr. Rajesh Kumar as Head in January 2026. The department got ₹25 crore funding for research on athlete injuries and performance enhancement.

They’re studying Indian cricket players’ shoulder injuries and working with BCCI on injury prevention protocols. The research involves analyzing 200+ Ranji Trophy players across different states.

AIIMS Mumbai focuses on football-related ACL injuries, partnering with Mumbai City FC and East Bengal FC for player health monitoring.

Future Doctors Need Fitness Too

Honestly yaar, medical students work crazy hours – sometimes 36-hour shifts during internship. Physical fitness becomes secondary, but AIIMS is changing this mindset.

AIIMS Delhi made 1-hour daily sports mandatory for first-year MBBS students from April 2026. Students can choose between cricket, badminton, football, or gym sessions.

The institute tracks fitness levels of 1,200+ students and noticed 40% improvement in stress management among those playing regular sports.

Mujhe lagta hai this sports focus will create healthier doctors who understand fitness importance firsthand. After all, how can an unfit doctor motivate patients about healthy living?
